I'm halfway through reading Quest for Karn at the moment and I'm finding character elements of the main characters involved, {Elspeth Tirel}, {Venser, the Sojourner} and {Koth of the Hammer}, that I didn't really realize from just the cards and the character bios on MtGS.

One of the cooler things now is I can't help but look at {Venser, the Sojourner} without seeing David Tennant's Dr Who! In character and abilities! How much cooler is Venser now! Lol.

Anyway, that is all. As you were!

Validan

He is very doctor who lol especially when he sacrifices himself to bring Karn back, he just doesn't get his other lives...

Oh my goodness. Quest for Karn was terrible for me. I couldn't get past the first few chapters.

Have you read the older books? They're pretty good. Dissension was my favorite.

I'll wait for the movie

Hey, sweet post.

I was wondering if you can expound on this notion a bit. As Venser is my favorite Planeswalker and my girlfriend looooves Dr Who and doesn't like magic....yet!

Id love to tell her about this, and I dont know anything about Dr. Who. Please help!

Ok I'll try my best. First of all, they actually look similar. Have a look at this pic:

Now go back and have a look at {Venser, the Sojourner}. Now have a look at this bad boy:

Or this one too:

Second of all, Venser's abilities revolve around making things disappear without trace and as you would know (just from sitting with your GF or hearing her talk about it), the Doctor is a Time/Space/Dimension Traveller. So his abilities are explained as follows:
+1: The Doctor will save lives first in all his series and incarnations (Im pretty sure), ever series he takes a new companion with him on his journeys (often times a pretty girl), mostly to warp them away of danger, then they get sidetracked on inbetween trying to return her and she sticks around until finally getting home safe at the end of a cycle/series. In other words, he exiles a permanent and returns it to safety after the danger passes (at the end of turn).
-1: The Doctor has a little thing called a Screwdriver, a device which helps him analyse, manipulate and control a lot of different things. He often uses it on baddies to sneak by or escape unscathed, hence "creatures are unblockable."
-8: Obviously, the Emblem you receive IS the TARDIS or something to that effect.

Hope that was ok (and correct, Im not the biggest Dr Who buff either, my GF is the fan too. But Ive learnt everything from her.)

Validan

Doh! Sorry I figured You knew lol I took some time this morning to read all about phyrexia and the plains walkers via Wikipedia so I think I got a little excited that you were talking about it and had hoped you'd finish readin your book by the time you saw my post!

Wow thanks for that! She was very impressed and I even was able to teach her how to play and a little of the story of Innistrad. She said she still doesn't want to spend money on it, it's still a step in the right direction.

You could always build a budget deck or get Dueling Decks made to be played against each other. I've been trying to get my significant other in on MtG for a while too.

Yeah it's a tough call. I told her I'd build her a white legacy Cat deck because she loves cats so much. didn't work...yet
