Phantasmal Image

My opponent has {Guul Draz assassin} in play with 2 level counters.  I play {lord of the unreal} and he uses assassin ability to give the lord -2/2...... Can I respond by playing {phantasmal image} on my lord or will the assassin ability kill the lord before the image can copy?

Since the image doesn't have flash and the assassin's ability is instant speed, the lord dies before the image hits the BF

If you have some way of casting the image as an instant, you could copy the Lord. Otherwise, he's a dead man. ðŸ'€
