If you give a {spellskite} hexproof, the "cannot" trumps his ability, correct?

Kuberr

Well. You can still target your own creature with hexproof.

Shroud you cannot.

So technically he can redirect spells or effects to it. Since its him doing it.

So if my spellskite has hexproof and I redirect an oppoment's doom blade to him, what happens?

Gorzo

But the wording of hexproof is "cannot be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control." Even if you were to attempt to change the target, the spell is still "controlled" by the opponent who cast it, making spellskite an invalid target. And since can't beats can, i'm thinking you won't be able to change targets to a hexproof spellskite (from spells/abilities cast by opponents)

Not 100% sure on this though. Very interesting scenario.

Edit: this is all assuming it has hexproof before attempting to shift targets to spellskite, of course. If you change targets to it and THEN give it hexproof with something like {Sheltering word}, the spell fizzles

Nobbert

So spellskite + {ring of evos isle} = an unhappy opponent?

Gross.  Yes.

Too bad it isn't considered a blue creature, if it got the counters on top of it all it'd be like a slap in the face.

BlackJester

You can activate the ability and attempt to change the target, but if {Spellskite} has hexproof the original target will remain unchanged.

Confirmed.  🔨

What about the ring/stacking hexproof?

Should work as long as you stack it right. Put hexproof on stack first, then the {redirect}s to the 'skite, so when it resolves top down it isn't hexproof until after its the target.

BlackJester

Oh yeah, that works. If the skite's still a legal target when its ability resolves and THEN gains hexproof the original spell/ability will be countered on resolution.

Ghebert

If its doom blade though... Wouldn't doom blade resolve and kill it before the hexproof activates?

Yesssss
The Johnny in me is happy

Jbombard51

{doom blade} > hexproof ability > {spellkite} ability in that order would make doom blade fizzle, yes? A little confused lol. Going backward resolving 'le stack' seems to make sense to me on that one logically, but I'm sure I'm wrong on here due to ability resolution timings. Idk... Lol

Jdogtoocool

Doom blade activates, in response activate spellskites ability for a blue or 2 life, in response activate the rings hex proof ability and that's that. Spellskite gains hex proof, doom blade fizzles and you get to keep both creatures

BlackJester

Close, close.

Doom Blade is cast and put on Le Stack. In response, activate Skite's ability and put that on le stack on top of the blade. Wait for Skite's flagbarer ability to resolve, THEN give it hexproof with doom blade still waitin to resolve.
