I don't mind taxes they are a necessary evil. I just don't think we need more government telling us what we can and cannot do.

Actually they were only necessary during a World war. Taxes were supposed to be temporary and te government would make money using countless other programs.

At that time yes but now there are so many other things offered by the government that they are necessary. Garbage pick up roads bridges parks and so on.

Because government options should be the only option, lol.  Government is always such a fluid an transparent choice, I mean let's take more money from the 1% and give it to a highly dysfunctional government.  It would be like paying for Cable Internet and only getting dial up speed.  I know I love paying for more and getting less.

As I said earlier I believe in a smaller government.

If the 1% had their way everyone would have to pay "their share" and there would be no more middle class.

Taxes are necessary people would let the [ deleted ] hit the fan then complain when it happens. Someone has to play watchdog but sometimes they take it too far.

I sense a split topic in the near future.

Too far as in being taxed because you are alive, as in affordable care? Lol, yeah.  Bigger slap in the face with that is places like Walmart and GE being exempt...lol

As far as taxes being necessary, to a point. But if you're going to complain about the higher income not paying a fair share, devils advocate would ask why lower income pays little to none. Class warfare may win you popularity, but doesn't fix any problems with the current dysfunction and disconnect from reality.

In this Jester's opinion, (which has little value in this context, but hey! this is what the internet is for right?) there should be less focus on taking more money, and more focus on fiscal responsibility.  How about some military cuts?

Jbombard51

Military cuts is a very broad and generic statement. Please be more specific.

It's always easy to scapegoat military spending while sweeping government abuse of revenue under the rug. GSA and federal Hawaii seminars including how to use an iPad are some easy examples.

The best I can do is to be broad.  I admit to insufficient knowledge on the topic.  I know that some military spending goes to areas like DARPA, which is good in my book.  Other military spending goes to killing people overseas and "fighting evil".  That part I'm not so sure about...
Again, I haven't looked at the US budget, and don't have the knowledge to make an adequate comment here.  But as always abuse is wasteful and shouldn't be tolerated.

As far as them not paying taxes all of them I know do. They pay the same amount when buying items. And it's a bigger percentage of their money. We can argue little points to make both of our comments valid. There are a lot of things that can be done better.

Rass

Also why do I think the 1% should be taxed more is because I am in the middle class and I pay about 50% of my income in taxes and I think they should do the same. Maybe if I ever get to the 1% I would change my mind but I doubt it.

BlackJester

Pure communism?  Interesting, sharing is caring. ;D

Hey now Jester, our military does not need to take anymore cuts. We're scraping by as is. But responsible spending, now there's the ticket. Too much frivolous spending is abound nationwide. From the top to the bottom. Take the new Arena to be built downtown. WTF!?! Do we need to spend millions so the F'ing Oilers can play in a nice ice rink? Is Rexall really that bad? Did we need that ugly, expensive as tits art gallery? IMO, it comes down to priorities. And to be very honest, and I don't care who it offends, but when are we going to cut off the first nations from sucking the hind teat of the gov't? We took your lands, raped your women and pillaged. Over 100 years ago!! Get over it! Stop perpetuating the stereotype. Sink or swim I say. the amount of social, education, health and tax exemptions/programs available to them is huge. Succes rate? F'ing sad. On a whole of course. Some first nations people, and I know many, have the drive and are successful as all hell.

God I'm ranting now.

XD
Nononono, I was referring to US, we barely have a military budget to cut.  Although, I think having a downtown arena for events would be good, or at least leave Rexall open for more Concerts and such.  Edmonton Downtown needs work, though.  I'm sure you can agree with that.
I'm not touching the first nations stuff though.

Kuberr

I was in the united states army for four years to get my citizenship, went to Iraq back in 09. And not one time have I ever seen a Canadian trooper. Did they just not go to Iraq? I've heard great stories of the Canadian paratroopers.

Hays413

Ah I see. Lol.
I just dont think that while, a new arena would be nice, I mean, whatever. But I'm 100% certain there are much better ways to spend the money. Did you hear about the 60,000 dollar float for a parade our provincial gov't spent. A. Parade. Float. Really?
As for the 1st nations, I was weary about broaching it, but maybe thats everybody's problem.
