I was playing against good ol' Darkarts, and he milled me with {Jace Memory Adept}s 0 ability while I had 5 cards in my library.  Do I lose because I can't mill anymore?  I thought you did and so did Darkarts, but my friend says it doesn't make you lose.

You would not lose until your draw step

Check rule 104.3c, if you are forced to draw more cards than in your library, you lose the game next time you have priority

scarsabrex

if he milled you for 10 wait till your next to
draw to lose if it was the ultimate you lost.

Milling is not the same as drawing. Once you cannot draw a card, you lose. So if he were to have used {Jace Memory Adapt}s -7 counter ability forcing you to draw 20 cards, and you only have 10 you lose right then and there.

Not exactly. You would draw your 10 cards. But until you have priority, game is still on. It's basically right there, but technically not until you have priority and state based actions are checked

Until ANY player gets priority, but yeah close enough.

Damn so close. But yea, when it comes down to it, it's insta lose I'm pretty sure, I can't think of any way to come back from that.

scarsabrex

i guess replacement drawing effects would work?

Not gonna lie, the only time that has ever happened to me is on DotP and they end the game instantly, but yea I see what jester means. So if there is nothing on the stack, since you use jaces ability as a sorcery, once that player has priority again it's over. Basically it doesn't even get back to your draw step.

A friend of mine has a wizards deck where he mills himself until all that's left is {beacon of tomorrows} and he just casts it every turn, hence getting unlimited turns unless countered. But anyway, if we apply that to this situation where you are forced to draw 20 cards and effectively being milled, can cards that are shuffled back into your library once casted save you from this? Considering you have enough mana to cast them before your upkeep

Well as said before if you're to draw more than you have in your library you lose before you can respond with anything.
