The other 40% say "Gar-ook" like the U in "tune" and with a softer A.

Quetzalcoatle is and ancient Mesoamerican diety. The word literally translates to "Feathered Serpent". Appropriate when you look at {Winged Coatle}.

There is an official way to pronounce the words.  From time to time, someone in Creative does a lexionary article on pronunciation of difficult Magic words.  Haven't seen one in a while, but those who made the words know how to pronounce them.

I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that much of magic is text-based.  Unless you watch the Protour and other vids, you'll just pronounce it how you think you should.  You're right, most of the words are made up, but at the same time, basic English guidelines are screwy anyway.

My shop owner calls the mirrodin set, meridian. Drives me nuts, if you ask him for a card out of mirrodin, he'll say, "oh you mean meridian?"

Most people say it like that, even though technically it should be mah-nah. The word doesn't come from English, which is why it's like that. 

Kind of like {Tamiyo, the Moon Sage}. People call her Tamm-mee-oh. But her name is pretty clearly designed under Japanese style, making her Tah-Mee-Oh.

Vowels get messed up bad in translation to English. A lot of languages have 1 phonetic sound per vowel (ah-ey-ee-oh-oo for a-e-i-o-u), where we have 3 or more for each. ("A's" can sound like can, cake, call...etc)
