I've been thinking about making a fungus deck, concentrated on summoning fungi, creating saprolings and filling eventual spots with ooze. To that end I see Ghave as being a cool general, but since I'm more interested in fun over efficiency and I want it somewhat budget, I'm considering {Thelon of Havenwood} instead. What ya'll think?

You have to run ghave.. You can't use thelon because his ability has a mana symbol you can't produce with him as a commander..

You could do it if you had {mycosynth lattice} on the field, but that is still a bit of a gamble. I would probably stick with ghave but add the elf to the deck, personally

I'm pretty sure that whatever mana symbol appears anywhere on a legendary creature, not just in the mana-payment field, counts as the color-identity of the creature, in terms of EDH.

The color identity of a general is determined by what colors are in his or her CMC

"A card's colour identity is its colour plus the colour of any mana symbols in the card's rules text. A card's colour identity is established before the game begins, and cannot be changed by game effects.
The Commander's colour identity restricts what cards may appear in the deck."

No worries, I feel like I learn something new about Magic everyday. Can't be aware of it all. But yeah, I guess Ghave would be the smart choice. He's just a little expensive around here. :(
