It's a website that consists of many smaller websites called subreddits. You can subscribe to each subreddit like you could a youtube account. You can post any web media onto a subreddit if it follows the guidelines, but most commonly seen are pictures and articles. You can upvote and downvote links that you see, and your homepage will show the top voted links from subreddits you have subscribed to. It's a fun site, check it out! http://reddit.com/

Like any sensible person, I browse 4chan from time to time. As far as I am concerned, Reddit is the scum of the internet. It contributes nothing of use to the internet, outside of ensuring that I'll be hearing the same stupid memes being spammed by 14 year olds everywhere because apparently having arrows plunged through your knee is so fun. If there's one website that can be attributed to everything that's wrong with the internet today, it's Reddit.
