The 3/3 body that it makes is a lot better than a couple 1/1's. The first strike is also much better on a bigger dude.

Also the captain wouldn't work well with vial, which I usually keep around 3

Yeah, you're right. {Tarmogoyf} isn't played much in Modern. 😉

I have path's in the board for goyf' sand related and post board I have the crusaders in. They just don't do a whole lot in some matchups which is why it's sideboarded for me
