Does orbs of warding's hex proof counter annihilator?

Spencer Addington

No because it doesn't target. It specifies "defending player", not target player.

I was also wondering which mana ability can be cast more then once when followed by a , or :

griffin131

Any ability can be used any amount of times, provided all costs (things before the : ) are paid.

Note that some abilities have specific limitations for activations like {rootwalla}. Otherwise this is correct. Unless stated, you may activate an ability as many times as you can pay the cost.

Back to the hex proof  it says you can't be the target of spells or abilities.your opponents control. So is my opponent controls ulamog the infinite gyre and he has anniihilator 4 the way I read it it is countered because it is an ability.

Pardyr

And it also says annihilator is a triggered ability in the rules

Hexproof says you cant be a target. however Annihilator is not targeting you. it doesnt say Target player sacrifices 4 permanents. it says defending player sacrifices 4 permanents so therefore you are not being targetted by an ability

You need something like {stifle} or {voidslime} to counter annihilator. Hexproof does nothing.

I cant even begin to imagine how screwed you have to be to be having to Stifle an annihilator trigger...

"I declare Emrakul as an attacker, trigger annihilator 6"
"Stifle the annihilator trigger"
"ok, still a 15/15 flying creature attacking..."
"chump block with storm crow to buy time"
"see you next turn..."
{stifle} on a {isochron scepter}?
Can't be all bad...

People {Voidslime} my commander deck's {Kozilek, the Winnar in Truth}s Annihilator all the time, so they aren't screwed when they only have 2-3 lands in play and need an answer.
