Apparently bolting the bird or holding up counter magic both would have been ok. Three choices, so of course I choose the wrong one. :/

Well it definitely slows me down. I swarm fast with creatures(I'll bump my list in the modern section) if the bird doesn't get bolted I usually get a turn 3 {Collected Company} into 2 {Woolly Thoctars} and that usually frightens players. So bolting the bird is most of the time the safest bet. Lol

Fair. Hard to commit to when I probably need the charm as a mana leak, but better a bolt than a looting :P

I'm happy to play them again, tomorrow maybe?

Bolting a mana dork is often the correct play.
Your opponent kept a hand planning on using that dork. Depriving them of that is usually a good idea.

I agree, but when my bolt is also a counterspell and I want to play around Rest in Peace, it's a harder question.

I made the mistake here of thinking I was the beatdown. Bolting or countering would have won the game maybe. Instead I went full steam ahead with looting and lost
