Oh, Adam Gontier.....your voice, your lyrics, your unbreakable heart, your undeniably hot self.....*fangirl swoon*

I'm so glad he's happy now, but honestly...I want him back in Three Days Grace. I have this dream of him magically appearing in concert with them when I see them live in August.

@astro. That's all I really remember from the book. It's been 20 years since I read it.

I just read THE BEST BOOK and I supah need to talk about it to someone, lolz. Have any of you guys read Brave New World???

Was that the book with orgy porgy or something like that in it?

Orgy progy? What?
Hahaha, yes....but that's not the best way to highlight the book ;) lolz

It's a sci fi book from the 1930s.....it takes place in the future, and we have established a civilization where no children are born, they are all carefully engineered and grown in test tubes. The alphas are the very best, and are designed to have high ranking jobs. At the other end are the epsilons, who are injected with alcohol to stunt their growth and make them stupid so they are fit for only the most menial jobs. As soon as the embryos are developed fully, the are unbottled and put into the nursery where their conditioning begins. Each class has its own conditioning, which mainly consists of voices being played while they are asleep, telling then the same messages over and over, telling them how happy they should be that they are the way they are. By the time they are matured, they have been conditioned to be totally happy with themselves and their lives. They have drugs they can use at will to banish any unhappiness, and all sorts of other amusements. Enter drama.

An alpha and his beta girlfriend (except she's not really his girlfriend because monogamy is frowned on), go to a reservation where "savages" or unengineered people still live. There, they find a lady who was kidnapped during her trip to the reservation and her son who was born naturally (gasp of horror).

*spoilers start here but it doesn't really matter because the book is based on concept instead of storyline*

They end up taking them back to civilization, and because the mother is so unacceptable to their culture, she chooses to live the rest of her life in a hospital, being pumped full of drugs to keep her high. The son, who is by far my favorite character, is labelled as the Savage and is experimented on and basically treated like an animal. He falls in love with the previously main character, but deems himself unworthy of her and feels extremely guilty about his feelings. When his mother dies, he is there, but she is high and doesn't recognize him, and she thinks he's one of her lovers (the one he hated most, there's tons of childhood trauma that he went through), and he goes slightly insane. He screams about how you can't have passion and love and true happiness without having the pain and the fear and the misery, and throws a group of delta workers' drug rations (the ones that always make them happy all the time) out of the window. He is arrested, his two friends get exiled to colonies, and he himself runs away from civilization and lives in an abandoned lighthouse type deal. There, his insanity continues, (I spent the whole rest of the book from this point on trying not to cry), and he spends the rest of his life trying to cleanse himself from all his sins, particularly his lustful thoughts over the girl he loved. He beats himself, tortures himself....it's kinda gnarly. But he's still famous among the civilization, so he was being watched without knowing. So then people (they just don't understand anything because of their conditioning) come and start chanting for him to harm himself. He starts attacking them, so the police people release soma gas into the air (soma is the drug that they take constantly to stay constantly happy) and it makes everyone very....giddy. And their culture encourages...promiscuity, so things get really weird. And when he wakes up the following day, everyone is gone, and he remembers what he's done....and then he kills himself.

I probably made it sound awful but it's so deep and incredible.....it's one of those books that you can't quite shake off.

I also just finished Metamorphosis and All Quiet on the Western Front....the world feels very dark 0.o

Sounds like it's worth a read

While it sounds like hell if it works it'll be worth it. I pray for the best for you.
