If you're gonna play hardened scales then you're just opening yourself up to mana issues. You'll want to hit G on turn 1 and UW on turn 2 for the battlewise hoplite. This opens up some obvious problems, so we need to pick one. Hoplite, if not the best, is tied for the best heroic target with hero of Iroas and while being really good provides threat density as well, decks like this can't run too few threats and cutting the hoplite would be really bad. Thus hoplite earns the slot over hardened scales. Dromoka's command is absurdly powerful putting 2 counters on a creature if you choose the counter mode, still putting a counter on if you choose fight mode, and being able to save your life from a lethal craters claws or killing an early courser of kruphix and it can do TWO of these. It's a perfectly fine splash
