A Question of Hugs

When an effect tells me to put a token onto the battlefield, but does not specify under my control, am I allowed to put it on the battlefield under someone else's control?

I'm wondering this because I want to make a {Questing Pheldagrif} hug deck.

Group Hug is a concept of deck that runs things like {howling mine} that help everyone while trying to become untouchable in the process. Some also play it with no win cons as just a fun way to be a friendly opponent instead of an evil one.

Play EDH, {Questing Pheldaggrif} is the commander and the deck does not attack people. It gives them stuff. Run crap like {Voyaging Satyr} and {Spectral Searchlight} to hand out mana. Cards like {Inspiration} and {Opportunity} to hand out cards. {Fog} effects to save lives. Then cram a couple of infinite combos in for wincons so you can just win outta nowhere. I haven't tried it but it sounds hella fun.

I ran a HippoHug deck for a while.  Won off of {Barren Glory}.  It was pretty sweet.

I ran a HippoHug deck for a while.  Won off of {Barren Glory}.  It was pretty sweet.

My buddy uses {The Cheese Stands Alone} instead of {Barren Glory}. Almost functionally the same card, but look at the smile on that Cheese. He does play it as waiting till upkeep though.
