Why significant others are awesome for magic

So I decided to try this out for myself with a box of Fate Reforged.  Let my girlfriend pick a pack and told her "I really want a monastery mentor."  She opened the pack and pulled a monastrry mentor!  So we tried again - this time I asked for Ugin.  She opened the pack and pulled Ugin!  Third time I got smart and just before she opened the pack I asked for the power nine...

...then, in the rare slot, was a basic forest with the words "power nine" written on it..

Let's be real, a woman that plays enjoys magic to the level that us nerds do is pretty hard to find. There are way more of us than them (dare I guess 40:1 ratio?). If we just eliminate non-planes walking women from our breeding pool than we magic fans are screwed (or should I say, not screwed). My girl is a catch among catches, she unfortunately is not a fan of magic. But she's worth looking past one flaw (no matter how big it may be).

My LGS has around 6 at every pre-release. Only two of which would earn the title of playing at the level of us nerds, but I'm willing to teach! So I think the ratio isn't /that/ bad. On the flip side all of them are taken. Unsurprisingly. xD

No, she's not on the wrong place. I am. I will give them credit that the ones that know the game and are good at it, they're super competitive. There is a 13 yo girl that goes to the store I occasionally go to, that straight up pounds face. The girl is good. But I will agree, a lot of the women I have seen seem like they are there so that they can be anywhere near their boyfriend who is also there.

We have a head judge (our head judge rotates between three people) who is a girl. Really good at magic. Another one of the head judge's has a girlfriend who is super in to magic (and I had no idea they were together till like two weeks ago o.O), and our third head judge has a sister who shows up every once in a while. There is usually one other miscellaneous girl per FNM, and a second whenever I get my girlfriend to come with me. She plays, but not a ton and isn't competitive at all. I don't care, a girl who likes video games, magic, and the walking dead is just fine with me

You in the wrong place then, we got 5 girls who are regulars and 2 more that play just because.

D: that sounds amazing!!! Here I'm usually one of the youngest players and the only female, so....it can be slightly uncomfortable at times

There are a few pipsqueaks in our meta. 7-9. A few 10-11. Most is 12-17, wi a smattering of 20+.
