If I play a card with the ability sit second, does that mean that no one can counter what I just played?

So if I used {wipe away} on a {heroes bane}, he can't use {dissolve} on my wipe away to counter it? Correct?

Oldschoolmtgnoob

That is correct. Once a split second spell is played, it must resolve before anything else can be played, including counters

702.60a: Split second is a static ability that functions only while the spell with split second is on the stack. "Split second" means "As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast other spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities."

702.60b Players may activate mana abilities and take special actions while a spell with split second is on the stack. Triggered abilities trigger and are put on the stack as normal while a spell with split second is on the stack.

Second part is interesting, wouldn't have thought of that

Hmm, so you can unmorph with split second on the stack. Interesting.

So {that one wizard} legendary creature with
{T} {U}{U} "counter target spell could counter a split second spell?

Edit: lol or {patron wizards} ability?

No, these are specifically prohibited by 702.60a as they are activated abilities. Abilities that would trigger (ex: "when a player casts a spell, X) can still occur, and unmorphing is a special action that does not use the stack. This can drive a {Willbender} triggered ability to reroute a Split Second spell.

{counterbalance} also works. It's a triggered ability so it will still trigger after split second. Note that players still receive priority with split second spells on the stack, they just cant activate any abilities or cast spells in response. Abilities can still trigger however. You can also float mana in addition to unmorphing and having triggered abilities go off. This is why {omnath, locus of mana} can live through {sudden death}.

Yeah the first thing I thought of when I read the second part of the rule was {kheru spellsnatcher}. Even though it's a really dumb card, I still play it, hoping one day to EVER use it...
