Pokemon help

my 6 yr old is watching the show and his friends at school have the cards.  He wants some cards and to learn to play.  Anyone have suggestions or advice on the best stuff to buy for starting up?

I figure it will be a gateway game to MTG

From what I've seen, they sell "fat packs" of Pokemon cards that contain 2 decks specifically designed to fight each other, sleeves, dice and 2 playmats...

From what I hear from my friend. They have premade decks like intro decks. Buy two of those and go from there. They come with some token/markers and a paper sheet to help you set up how your deck discard and other stuff goes.

If you have an ipad try the new app.  It's free and I hear it's a similiar experience to Dual of the Planeswalkers.

Tell him there's no way in heck he's going to play Pokemon, and give him some magic decks. 

Well he is learning to read and I think Pokemon is a little friendly for Littles to learn

Well. I have a couple shiny Pokemon cards you could take off my hands for 10 dollars a piece. (By shiny I mean the pokemon is a different colour than it would normally)

I have a totally random Pokemon promo that my lgs owner snuck in as a joke to a pack of magic promos for me and a group of friends to use as prizes one time. You're welcome to it it's a water type that I have no idea wtf it is because I only know the original 150.

So as a competitive player what would you recommend to buy?  I am thinking of buying the, I think it is, X/Y dual deck set.

Not sure if it's called dual deck but the set is like $25 and comes with 2 decks you can play against each other.

The duel deck is fine for his level of play, very simple good for beginners, at least if it's what I'm thinking it is

I actually quit pokemon to start playing magic. I have a ton of cards including valuable ones. (EXes, including full art ones and lots of old school stuff).

The Elite Trainer box and intro decks are the best products IMO.
