I love modern and trying to get out of standard, because in the long run, standard is more expensive than modern. I hate that in order to stay on top of standard, you constantly have to pour money into it. While in Modern, though the initial cost maybe high (depending on the deck), once you build it, all that's left is just a few updates here and there. You don't have to worry about rotations. I have 2 modern decks that do not run fetches that are pretty competitive, although I'm building up to fetches for my zoo deck...
The thing about this argument is that when you are a modern player......you still want to spend money on the new stuff.  I don't play standard and I have spent $700 on khans.  Thanks to the fetch lands otherwise I would have spent maybe $200 max

I know that feeling!!! I wanted to get out, and BAM! Wizards print fetches!!! I have to get those now and the walkers and then a few odds and ends...

I know we're getting a little off topic a little, but I like the fact that standard always changes, sure it's more expensive, but in 2 years I won't still be hearing about how mono black devotion won with Gary again.  But with modern, the teir 1 decks will pretty much always be teir 1.  U can go on a limb and try something new in modern, but in the end, it will never be better than t1.5 unless u just revamp a proven concept.  I'm trying to get into modern right now, but I just like how standard is always fresh, always something new.  And all of the sudden someone comes out with this crazy idea and it works.
