Shock lands instead of duals

Trying to build a legacy deck, clearly the OG duals are quite expensive....in addition to the Goyfs (making shardless bug - posting build for ref)

With a deck like this, how dangerous is shocking life?

I see the risks with lowering life by 3 to play a land untapped, but if I'm able to play the game without killing myself (or making super easy for a bolt to kill me) are shocks that bad of an idea?

Ulcerate over disfigure? Yes 3 life lost, but an extra -1/-1 can be useful ya?

You have a lot of stuff in bug that costs life... I think shocks would add up over time. I think ulcerate is very dangerous because you bolt yourself with it. I wouldn't play ulcerate...

In legacy pretty much all of the creatures you would kill with {Ulcerate} also die to {Disfigure}, so there's no reason to pay 3 life.

Regarding playing shocks in Shardless BUG. You are going to feel the pain (zing) in most matchups. Against storm and the like you reduce the amount of spells they need to chain together to kill you, and against other fair decks, you just make it easier for them to race you. You also already lose life from Thoughtsieze and Bob.

You can 'play' the deck, but it will not do well if you play against other optimized (ie: with duals) legacy decks because of your list's suboptimal card choices.

This is the issue with every budget conversation, the simple fact is there is no substitute for the things people are trying to replace (goyf, duals, FoW, etc).

These are the exact reasons why I play a legacy deck without the duel lands

For burn players: how annoying is {chill}?

Seems like it would be really good...

If anything get at least one ofs for the original duals applicable to your deck and maybe just use check lands like {sulfur falls} to fill the void.  Obviously you still want to run all of the fetch lands you can so your check lands are good after T1.  Running more basics will protect you from {wasteland} which is almost a 4 of in 90% of the decks you'll see

I like that idea
I have at least one of each dual. Perhaps I can spread it out like that if needed

{Chill} isn't new tech. I have one sleeved up for my delver deck but haven't had a reason to board it in yet.

Just studying top 8 and building after the best ones
Throwing in cliques due to just sitting on a playset

That's how I found chill and kakaras as sideboard options

Don't let that stop you from playing the list. It'll work without 3 Karakas. Just put an extra plains or a utility land:  {Windbrisk Heights},  {Horizon Canopy}, etc).

Why 3? Seems like you could get some bad draws a lot.

Well, first of all it's great and just beats some decks(sneak and show). Second, say you draw 2 and a basic. Turn one play this, turn two basic. Turn three, assuming they hsbnt wastelands your legendary land AND you need three mana, you can tap it and then play the other one to get three nabs that turn. True, not a good feeling to sac one just to be allowed to use your land drop, but drawing two is not likely, and them killing your first one is reasonably likely, and drawing two isn't the end of the world.
