ok had a weird issue with priority on a game i was playing on cockatrice. so i was the nonactive player, meaning it was my opponents turn, 1v1 modern. so basically, i am close to death, and am looking to use my two cards {negate} and {swan song} to get my own bird as a blocker. now obviously, i cant just use {negate} on nothing, i have to have a legal target. but, if my opponent does cast a non creature spell, i now cast negate in response. my question is though, as the non-active player, can i retain priority after casting negate like i could if i was the active player? or will priority automatically go to active player, and i will lose the opportunity to respond to negate with {swan song}?

Priority should go back to the active player then back to you again, before {Negate} resolves. Everybody has to pass for the spell to resolve.

No you continue to have priority so you get your swan and their spell resolves (assuming no other spells)

I just wrote a huge reply to this bit my iPod died.
Pretty much on the stack each player pita as many spells on than passes priority. Ionce no spells are put on by both players the top spell resolves, then more spells can be cast

116.3c: If a player has priority when he or she casts a spell, activates an ability, or takes a special action, that player receives priority afterward.
