Okay, I have this whole thing built.....with the exception of the fetchlands. They are just too expensive right now and I am not going to sink $300 into fetches right now when we have been promised a reprint. So here is my question: how do I alter the mana base so that it is still efficient, but only using these fetches: {Arid Mesa}, 2x {Marsh Flats}, and 1x {Misty Rainforest}. I have playsets of shocklands, am willing to get the checklands I don't have, and I wouldn't mind testing painlands.

This is essentially Shaun McLaren's list from PT BNG with two slight changes, I subbed out {Ajani Vengeant} for {Gideon Jura} and took out one {Ajani Vengeant} for an extra {Vendillion Clique}. I will obviously change it to my meta, but I don't really get to play too much. One thing that immediately jumped out at me was the 1 of {Spell Snare}. I want to cut something to add more (most likely a burn spell).

Since when have we been promised a fetch reprint?
Aaron Forescythe has said in a podcast that they will reprint fetchlands, but they need some time to react because the fetchlands, "shot up out of the blue". Many took this as, "we will get fetchlands in MM2 or 2015 block", but the fetches have been up there for a while, so we could easily see them in Khans or any point after.

Here is the transcript:
"Gatheringmagic: Big question is - Fetchlands. People are complaining about these in Modern and you did such a great job with the shocklands reprints that the availability is everywhere. People can't complain about getting their shocklands; if you don't have your shocklands, you're not prepare for the format. But fetchlands? People didn't quite see that. Is it the same thing for you guys? Did you not see this happening? The demand of Modern? And eventually I'm sure that we are going to get one, if you don't want to say when, is this a concern for you guys?

Aaron Forsythe: Yeah. I mean, they did take off kind of out of the blue it felt like. Pretty recently. And obviously our turnaround time on doing anything is not instantaneous. So any plans that we have to put more fetchlands out there will take some time to execute on. But we are definitely aware of, you know, what cards people need to build decks to play Modern and what cards they're after. So we are going to do what we can." He later said that they were willing to reprint modern staples because, 'we don't want the same problems as legacy.'

DeathlyFoiend

Rune snag sucks. You're using Snapcaster Mage.

From using it, I have found {Rune Snag} to be slightly better than {Mana Leak}. A lot of times, 2 is enough when three would be enough and those situations where you force them to pay 4 catches them off guard.

But the set up for 1 more mana seems incredibly useless even if shown better. And it sucks a lot more when using Snapcaster Mage since it exiles it from you graveyard, which Mana Leak doesn't have to rely on having others. Yea, 2 might be good enough, but it is weak in comparison and having 4 would only be lowered after a counter war, where Mana Leak shines more. And Mana Leak is better against combo decks that ramp high.

Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth

I want to add an extra {Spell Snare}, forcing me to cut a {Rune Snag}. Without the playset, I think {Mana Leak} would be better.

Progenitasm

I would suggest shaving the 4th T.edge, it's not necessary unless your meta is all manlands and super greedy color requirements. Something like Urza's factory has always worked wonders for me in that spot, but a desolate lighthouse is pretty useful too. Or even another coloured land, cryptic is triple blue afteral and you'll want RW somewhere for a lightning helix in the meantime

Munchlax

And maybe replace the sideboarded wrath of god with another supreme verdict

Progenitasm

Yeah, it's a metacall, if you have merfolk,delver tempo decks get that verdict, if you see thrun around wrath no question :)

Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth

I've actually been running {Hallowed Burial} and I really like it.

Why would I run {Urza's Factory}? Just to bluff some kind of weird Urza-control deck? {Desolate Lighthouse} is an option, but I think having the 4th {Tectonic Edge} gives me a leg up in a lot of matchups: UWR mirror to kill {Celestial Colonnade}, Tron to prevent the trifecta, Jund/Junk to kill {Raging Ravine}/{Treetop Village}, Soul Sisters to kill {Windbrisk Heights}, BW tokens to kill {Vault of the Archangel}, Merfolk to kill {Mutavault}....I haven't been having problems getting the triple blue either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Progenitasm

Fair fair ! And I guess even if the UUU was annoying you could use a mystic gate or something.

Mattao19

So far all the comments are tldr but...

Why not add 2-3 resto and 1 Kiki as a combo kill that's what most UWR decks are doing ...

Also {Ajani Vengeant}

1) Shawn McLaren already did it, but this is more of control deck.

2) {Ajani Vengeant} is sorcery speed which makes me sad....I had {Gideon Jura} in here, but I cut him in favor of a fourth {Cryptic Command}
