L is better. Light had the power to kill whomever he wanted whenever he wanted.

We can argue about an anime all day long, but assuming this happened real world, let's take a look at how the effects changed life.  Within weeks crime dropped insanely.  Light only ever killed people who were either criminals, or directly interfering with his ability to kill such criminals.  Now I may have personal bias considering I'm a pretty model citizen (I give platelets every 2 weeks (not for money), and I don't break the law (I don't even speed really)).  But either way, I say a world with less criminals is a good thing.  Now, did Light have the right to go about acting judgment on such criminals? No.  But let's be fair, the justice system (in America at least, I can't speak for that of japan) is pretty flawed.

Still gets an 8/10 rating for being a good anime, but I was still rooting for Light to rule the world.

But if u liked death note, I really would like to suggest "code geass: lelouch of the rebellion".  Great anime with another great "superpower" effect.
