Are standard players the dumbest players in magic? I just ask bc recently at FNMs I'd play guys who've been playing for over a year but strictly standard!! No EDH or Modern or anything but standard and drafts! And they are just so dumb! Looking at the spoilers they just don't get it!

Quotes like:

"How is {Raise the Alarm} good? All it gets you are 2 weak tokens"

*this next one was said at the BNG release*

"I played Green and Courser was my seeded rare FML that'll be a $1 rare some lol"

And my favourite!! "Ew Chord of calling costs 3 Green AND X who the hell would play that?"

Sorry I just get frustrated my silly people!!

End rant :D

Yeah....standard is definitely the dumbest of the formats. I'd rank them (in order of difficulty, from most to least): Vintage, Legacy, Draft, Sealed, Modern, Commander (depending on how your group plays, this could be different), Standard.

No, it's legacy, modern, commander, sealed, vintage, standard.
Vintage is easy, just drop your lotus into your game winning spell and force their counter.  :P

As someone who plays Vintage every few months, that's a load of crock :P  It's actually Legacy, EDH, Vintage, Limited, Modern/Standard...

At least for me.  Legacy, EDH, Vintage and Cube all have the most number of ridiculous interactions, which make them "Harder to Play".

Anyways, we have tons of high-level Standard players at our store, who also play competitively in every other format.  The only reason Standard is so huge is because it's kind of the 'beginner's format'.  Once people get a taste of the good stuff, they'll probably be switching over. If they don't, oh well.  To each their own.

Ok. Let's face it. We were all like that at one time. I got out of standard about a year and a half ago. It's because I had found modern and realised it was just way more fun. Not to long ago my LGS did something they called the great enlightenment where they proxied up some top teir/really fun Modern decks and handed them to standard players as they walked in and we had a modern tournament. It brought lots of players to modern. It was a good day

That would be so awesome lol, I would love to join in on that!

I disagree. All people are fundamentally stupid.

If you were to ask me who I thought were the most annoying group of players, I would tell you the people that value cards solely based on their monetary value.

LadyGrixis

I don't agree with this at all. Standard players may have it "easier" because the card pool is smaller to choose from; but to lump all Standard players together and call them stupid is a stupid comment in and of itself. People just starting out have no concept of Modern or Legacy or Vintage for the most part, simply because most of those sets aren't readily available to them. And for most people, Standard is all they can afford. So maybe try being more educational to these folks instead of being snide and offering backhanded comments?

Just my two cents. I love all formats.

Mattao19

That's true guys and tbh I was just more annoyed than logical lol I had to rant but I know that not every Standard player is dumb as I myself play standard (.. Wait uh oh lol) but just had to ask what y'all thought :P

Moneekahh

All in all I would consider standard to be the "dumb" format, if I had to pick one. But we all start somewhere, right? I have grown to seriously dislike the format, not the people who play it. :P

As far as difficulty in other formats, I can't speak for legacy or vintage because we aren't there yet monetarily speaking. I agree that EDH is more difficult to play than modern solely because the interactions can become so complex, and you never really know what you can expect in a game. Whereas, with modern, you typically know what you're up against, making the format "easier" to play. This is my opinion at least.

And besides, it makes sense that standard players would seem dumb. I vividly remember not understanding what made fetch lands so great when zendikar came out, I'd only been playing for less than a year at the time, still getting to know the intricacies of the game. If I heard someone say now why they don't get how fetches or shocks are good, I'd shake my head and think to myself "I used to be that dumb". Haha

PapaBudz

I play standard and EDH. I'm not a pro by any means, but I'm not a noob either. EDH is so much fun. Standard is the only format that stays fresh over time. When I have the cash, I'll get into modern... Actually, I'll probably get into modern when the fetches are reprinted.

You get 2 chump blockers at instant speed.  It's ok, but i wouldn't say it's good.
Don't pull the card advantage thing on me, that's not really card advantage.
It's two creatures for two mana. So for a lot of console spells that's two less mana you have to pay for almost every one after you play a raise the alarm. Otherwise it's just instant speed tokens which is good in a weenie deck

I think stupid is a little harsh and I'm not a fan of the big ego people get when they play multiple formats. Ignorant might be a better word, they're just not aware of how cards will interact with cards outside of standard and generally won't care, but don't let that upset you. That's immature and you sound like a magic bigot, babe. 😉

They'll learn with more experience.

I understand someone not knowing the interactions in some weird Legacy deck, but for someone to look at {Courser of Kruphix}, {Raise the Alarm} and {Chord of Calling} and call them horrible cards simply implies a low level of thought processing. I guess Chord is understandable, it might not see a lot of standard play right now, but {Courser of Kruphix} is probably the second most played card out of Theros block (besides the Temples, and the first being {Elspeth, Sun's Champion}) and how would someone think that getting 2 1/1s for 2 at instant speed is bad?

We also don't know who actually said this, with no description, it could have been a kid, someone with a learning disability, someone who's only played magic for only a few months, etc. Some quotes could also have been taken out of context or exaggerated like people tend to do when they're upset.

Id rank it:
Vintage
Legacy
EDH
Limited
Modern
Standard.

Standard is by far the easiest.
