Why are zen fetches modern legal but onslaught ones not?

Because modern decks consist of 8th edition and beyond. Onslaught was before 8th edition

Who cares though? They still fetch the same lands. Sure you get a little better fixing but my {Arid Mesa} is still going to grab my {Hallowed Fountain} like I don't need a {Flooded Strand}

Ah, but if you need a blue source and you are at 3 life, you can't {arid mesa} into an {island}. 

True but that scenario happens so few times. Like of course if FS was legal you'd go for it but tbh it makes no difference.

Side note: A lot of pros want them to ban fetches in modern!!

But ya Josh Utter-Leyton said that he'd love to ban them bc of a few reasons:
1. Shuffling takes too long
2. Mana is too good. If allows players to splash colors for 1 card in their SB (Ancient Grudge)
3. It drives ppl away from modern bc it's a huge price commitment. Ppl are used to $15 and under cards for standard and all of a sudden they need to drop $200 for a playset of LANDS!!

I think he means that fetches are such a big part of modern that banning them is "like banning modern" as a joke. Also, I agree with everything Josh Utter-Leyton said, especially since I don't want to buy Arid Mesas.

We all do but it's fine you don't NEED them they just help the checklands ({Glacial Fortress}) are great!!
