He's kinda been a big name in the Lore since Urza was around.  They wouldn't throw him away.  Also, the way MaRo talks, he basically says 'We're up to bringing back everything eventually, except for Storm.  Screw Storm.'  I wouldn't get super excited about seeing a new Karn for a while.

He leaves behind an incredible legacy (lol punny) an there will be other talented an creative individuals to take his place. Definitely big shoes to fill.. And they may never be filled completely, he's contributed an awful lot to MTG.
