I am casting {Infernal Tutor}, the spell goes to the stack, can i wait for the response from my opponent before I sac my {Lion's Eye Diamond}? Or must I sac it before my opponent decides whether to counter it?

Sure but if he is smart he won't do anything and priority will not go back to you and you will not have a chance to respond with lions eye before your spell resolves

Nymuera

Ok, so does the spell check for your hand state when cast or when it resolves?

I would say when it resolves otherwise it would read something like "as you play this spell show a card in your hand"

Actually you would not be able to get knowledge of if he is going to counter before you activate lion's eye diamond. Unless you cast the tutor at instant speed on another players turn.

If you cast it on your turn, you get priority right after you cast it, you pass to your opponent, they say I don't add anything to the stack. Both players have passed priority without adding anything top spell on the stack resolves.

116.3b: The active player receives priority after a spell or ability (other than a mana ability) resolves.

116.4.: If all players pass in succession (that is, if all players pass without taking any actions in between passing), the spell or ability on top of the stack resolves or, if the stack is empty, the phase or step ends.

If you mean what you type and want to sac the diamond for mana, it is as giggle said and you have to do it before you pass priority. If you mean reveal it from your hand to search your library for another one, you chose what card to search for when the spell resolves, making it too late to counter it (your opponent has the opportunity to counter before you reveal what you're searching for)

Deathstorm

I think what he means is that the lions eye diamond is on the field and he is sacing it to discard his hand for the tutors hellbent ability

He asked if he can wait for his opponents response before sacing lions eye.  I stand by answer when I said if he passes priority he is taking a chance of losing te chance to sac lions eye.  The only way he can sac lions eye after he passes priority is if his opponent makes another move that he can respond to....otherwise his opponent passes priority and the spell resolves without him being able to sac the lions eye.  <insert emoji gavel>

Ah ya, so we did both say the same thing just worded differently.  Sorry the initial "sure" is what threw me off there.

Ok. The question makes more sense now. It was confusing to me why it would matter.

Sorry guys, I din mean to confuse anyone. Thanks for taking time to answer my question. Cheers!
