What would be some good ways to utilize his ability? Obviously ETB trigger creatures, but what would be the best ones to put in a deck focused around him?

I think {Shadowborn Apostle}s could be a thing with him. Either you continue to drop demons all the time, or they take 18. Also, with {Shadowborn Demon}, when you sac, you can just pull the guy back.

...  No, because then it's impossible to go infinite unless your opponent is an idiot and keeps taking 3.

Some might run him though, either they take 3 or you get it back, and many of their creatures are literally made to die.

an enchantment? like {erebos, god of the dead}? she prevents lifegain.
