It's your fault because you didn't lock the door, even though the thief should still get punished.  I don't see how this relates...

It relates perfectly, just because the teacher left his wallet on the desk doesn't mean you should take it. I agree this teacher is probably the bag a feminan heigene product came in. But abusing technicalities on an assignment and not expecting a zero is not his fault. There is ALWAYS going to be people like him in your life, always. Get used to it now while your young and figure out how to work around it. Simply my .02, and honestly don't mean to insult anyone.

Ah well the way i understood it from your first post was he prompted 'what will YOU change.'

If he said 'what is going to' or 'what needs to' he invited a typhoon of sarcasm, irony and accusation, its totally his fault. :)

So if I leave my backdoor unlocked, is it totally my fault that someone opens it and steals stuff?

Piotr, it is my opinion that you would be zero at fault, it's people that think you are also to blame are the people that won't accept responsibility for their own actions. There is this crazy new concept out called "honor". There is less and less of it out there too. Sorry, both posts are off topic, just been one of those days that I can't run the shut up filter.

Ok there are certain undeniable facts of life, one being that not everybody has honor. Now Piotr is a proponent of logic, and therefore i dont think hed dare deny this. So knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that people steal and have since the beginning of time, if you choose to leave your door unlocked you are inviting trouble. If you forget then your neglectfulness in that situation allowed for shenanigans. So saying youre 'at fault' is not quite right but you are very much responsible for defending your belongings. Which includes locking your doors.

1) its people like that who live in reality
2) you have no basis to judge me or anyone else in that way. Im a rather responsible person and never push my problems to other people(unlike what you semi just did by sayig were at fault for this lack of honor or some such BS).

MisterJH

You probably just have the sense to not live in ideals where everyone in the world should be perfect and nothing bad happens

Locks are to keep honest people honest

I apologize, I didn't mean to insult. I actually didn't mean to direct it to you at all. Just simply mean that there are a lot of people that do have this mentality, that they are failing because of someone else, they can't get by in life because of some one else. But they themselves refuse to put in the effort to EARN what other people work hard to achieve. Again, this is not meant toward you, as you do sound like you work hard and succeed in your other classes. Just a general statement, and you probably know a few people just like I'm describing.
