Palisade Giant

My friend has a {Palisade Giant} on his side of the field, he states that if i attack with {Deathgaze Cockatrice} he can choose not to block and take the 2 damage but since his giant takes the damage instead, it doesnt take the deathtouch.

The giant will die because of deathtouch.

It doesn't matter how damage is done, as long as damage is done.
