When they rotate out what do you think a foiled hallowed fountain will be?

FustyDavorite

As a model, it will at first drop, but then will start approaching this:  {Hallowed Fountain}

Nice.
At first I didn't know if I wanted to keep them cause I don't like the loss of life and didn't understand why I wouldn't just play with basic lands so now I understand them from some of the traders her giving me good advice and to thos that gave me good advice I respect you even more I had a friend who traded me 5 for my foil godless shrine I was in the dark and he took advantage of that kind of made me mad when I found out I was take for a fool mind you that's when they first came out.

yeah they're good! And used in eternal formats where people like their foils, so you'll see it rise over the years

MisterJH

Itll quickly regain any value it loses post rotation most likely, it should be noted

They're also used in edh and any big edh cards are expensive in foil. Look at {Bojuka Bog}

Ducky

What is eternal format I'm just trying to better under stand so I know when to hold onto cards cause I'm tired of getting this good stuff than trading it away for something I thought I wanted and end up with the card I traded going up it makes me sad. But i'am your students and ur my teachers so pleas keep educating me that way I won't make the same mistakes.

Quickly sits down pencil in hand and ready to learn.

lol it's not really a mistake, it's just a game. But when I say eternal format, it's a format that doesn't see much of any change in the meta and whatever else. Like Legacy. Legacy robots and merfolk will always be a thing, and all cards that are necessary to those decks will always maintain value. Like  {Master of the Pearl Trident} is pretty much a must have for legacy merfolk.

I did the same thing.. I had no idea the value of shocks for awhile, and when i started playing i pulled 6 in 1 day... That was 6 in 8 packs, i swear to effin gawd.. And guess how much value i turned that into? Like $10 now, i traded em all for stuff that plummeted not even a month after, whenni learned how dumb i was. And guess how many shocks ive pulled since learning magic basics? 1.. 1 shock.. I could have 10+ now, instead i have a freakin hallowe fountain

MisterJH

So yes, learn from us!

Ducky

True it is a game. A drawing on a pice of card borde but I would rather know what  to look for as we all spend loads of money and I'm sure we all want to try to get the most out of what we get cause money doesn't grow on trees.
Thank you all for the help btw.
What is the meta?
And do the Grand Prix have something to do with card prices like the top 8 and stuff?

MisterJH

The meta is what is currently popular in a format, like standard has a lot of black devotion, blue devotion, different forms of aggro.. So thats whats prevalent in the meta

Yes, if a card is featured in a top deck at a grand prix if it wasnt expensive before theres a chance thatll change quickly.

Ducky

Ok I like watching the Grand Prix to see what people play so that is a good start does it also go off what people play at Fnm? Or is it just the Grand Prix?

what you see at FNM is commonly called the "local meta" what're people playing? What cards are effective against those builds? These are all factors that go into building a deck. You account for the metagame. For instance, esper control takes up 20% of the meta right now, so you better have answer to {Sphinx's Revelation} and {AEtherling} in your deck, because odds are you're going to play against a lot of it.

Legacy is an eternal format because it includes every set and sets never rotate out like they do in standard.

Modern is also eternal but it does not include the really old sets; however, it includes all core sets from 8th up and expansions from Mirrodin up ......these sets will never rotate out.
