The abbey's paschal candle has gone out and Friar Benedict is charged with re-lighting it as soon as he receives a signal from one of the three monks located in the crypt beneath the abbey's chapel. But Friar Benedict is a bit deaf from ringing the abbeys's bells, and only one of the three monks of yelling loud enough for Benedict to hear him. The abbot, who's is also in the crypt, wants to know which monk can do this. What must he do to find out which monk Friar Benedict can hear, if he only goes upstairs to the chapel once?

Note: the abbot cannot be helped by anyone else and he cannot see into the chapel from the crypt.
