Damage is going to roll over with trample unless blocked. Since you're only blocking two of the damage, you're going to take two from the trample.
This, you would tap the sharpshooter once, preferably before you declare blockers, declare your two blockers, when one dies, you untap sharpshooter, tap it to deal a second damage, and when the second 1/1 dies, it's dealing lethal to the 4/4 and untapping your sharpshooter once more. But because damage is simultaneous, you're still taking the two damage rolled over (4 power minus 2 toughness.) You must either block with toughness equal to the power of a creature with trample (in this case 4), or kill the creature with trample before damage is being dealt either with first strike or a removal spell.

Also, yes, for each scenario I mentioned earlier the 4/4 would die.
