If someone was running a mono red edh and had out five 1/1 goblins along with  {Goblin Sharpshooter} c13, and was blocking against a 4/4 with trample, could the sharpshooter destroy the 4/4 with trample? Got into an arguement with a friend over trample.. When a trample creature is blocked is it dealt damage by the second creature and so on?

ibtrickey

This is not a rules question.

Ekann1

Seems like a rules question to me....

ibtrickey

Would the 4/4 take combat damage?

Ekann1

What is it being blocked by? The 5 1/1s?

Kaleo42

It's a rules question beyond a doubt.

Kaleo42

There is not enough information here. You have stated the following:

Active player has a 4/4 trample creature that is attacking

Defedning player has 5 1/1 goblins and a {goblin sharpshooter} in play.

Are there any blocks? Is the sharpshooter currently untapped?

And your question is can the sharpshooter specifically kill the 4/4 trample? Or can the defending player kill it using all their creatures?

Kaleo42

If your question is specifically on do blocking creatures deal damage yes they do regardless of what the attacking creature is or deals to them (exceptions include protection). 4 1/1 goblins would kill said 4/4 trample by the laws of math.

It assigns "lethal damage" to one creature, then the next, then the next, and so on.  Then all damage is dealt simultaneously.  So your sharpshooter would only untap once.

How was he Untaping before to kill the trample guy if nothing was blocking and dying?
If 5 creatures die then sharpshooter untaps 5 times leaving an oportunity to tap it inbetween each untap. They are triggers and do allow for responses.

The sharpshooter is untapped. Just wondering if the sharpshooter could kill the 4/4? Or if 4 of the 1/1 goblins can kill the 4/4 with trample?

Then i believe my previous two post answer both questions.

Not exactly.. Can it get dumed down..

You can kill the 4/4 with trample by either blocking with 2 1/1's, tapping your Sharpshooter twice, losing 2 life and 2 1/1's, blocking with 3 1 /1's and tapping your Sharpshooter once to deal the final damage, you lose 1 life because of trample, and three tokens die, or you can block with 4 of the 1/1's and take 0 damage but lose 4 tokens.

Trample only carries damage over if their power is higher than lethal damage against all creatures blocking said creature with trample..

But if the 4/4 is blocked by two 1/1 and use sharpshooter, wouldn't that kill the 4/4, and take no life damage? And for any scenario the 4/4 would die correct

Damage is going to roll over with trample unless blocked. Since you're only blocking two of the damage, you're going to take two from the trample.
