I was told by my mom( I had no previous knowledge of this) that when I was younger I had to go to speech therapy and was said to have listening problems. Speech therapy was for a vocabulary difficiency(because the test that I took for it I didn't say the right words when asked questions[ by the way the next weekend I was at the movies with my parents and called something in the movie barbaric]), the whole thing was a load of crap. Listening problems was because I didn't respond to loud sounds, another load of crap.

But to the point, have any of you all have to go to speech therapy or something like it for a stupid reason like this?

Kaworu, the Fifth Child

I did when I was young... Because my parents wanted me to become a government official with perfect speech, grammar, etcetera.

I had to go to speech therapy to learn how to say my r's.  They just had me do some stupid thing by saying my r in front of a fan, and if I "did it right" it would make my fan turn.  I could never get it to turn, even if I did say my r right, and they made me keep trying until, I got so frustrated I quit.  It was stupid.

Did you have trouble saying jewelry? Because that was also one of my problems

I, for a short time, had "vision problems". I wore glasses for a week before my parents realized that the optician was just BSing use because my normal physician said I had better than 20/20 vision.

My kindergarten/first grade (I don't remember) teacher tried to get me put on ADHD meds because I was tapping my feet and .poo. during class. Funny thing is, I'm probably one of the most mellow people you'd ever meet.

My niece has problems but shes doing well. She was tested in some way to see if she had the sufficient vocab for a three-year-old. She was told shes ok. But even now she doesn't speak well and has a hard time making sense. We'll see i guess :/

Hipster optician ;)

I had this classmate before who was borderline ADHD/autistic. He always got through though and he's doing just fine with his studies. He's cool. Just proves that even if you have disabilities, you can still do great stuff.

I think people are just too caught up in the average age when kids hit milestones and the rate at which they learn. Every child will be different, but for some silly reason society tells us thy if our child doesn't do ______ by age _____, then intervention is needed. I am of the belief that if you give a child time, they will usually catch up to their peers.

This happened with my nephew. He didn't really start speaking coherently until he got around kids his own age in daycare. Now he has the normal speech pattern of four year olds.

I didn't start talking untill I was three.  my parents got me proficient in sign language (which I no longer remember) before I started to talk.

I used to sign. My great aunt taught the deaf and blind and employed them to help her with errands and do stuff around the house. I would go there for the summers and she would teach me how to sign to communicate with them.
