Can Ring of Immortals be activated against an enchantment previously played against a permanent I control?  E.g. Oblivion Ring

No, a spell can only be countered on the stack. if it is already in play, it cant be countered. also, O-ring is not an aura, so this wouldnt work in any case

Finally ruling is no. If the card was on the field when you played it, you can't counter. You only get a chance to counter it when it is on the stack.

Ps o-ring doesn't target on the stack only when it enters the battlefield. So you can't counter that spell, even if you had the chance with that card

Ring of Immortals would not be able to counter Oblivion Ring because OR is not an aura.

Auras are enchantments that are attached to a creature, whereas normal enchantments are enchantment that exist by itself on the field, such as Oblivion Ring.

All auras are enchantments, but not all enchantments are auras.

As far as other enchantments targeting your creatures, RoI could counter them as soon as they are cast, so long a they have the "Aura" subtype.

Example:
Player A has Thorn Elemental on the battlefield.
Player B casts Pacifism on Thorn Elemental.
Player A pays 3 and taps Ring of Immortals to counter Pacifism.

Now, RoI's ability would have to be put on the stack when Pacifism is brought into play. You can't counter a spell that has already been cast.

Hopefully that helps.

Wrong. It is an enchantment, so it does work. If you read the card it clearly says enchantment. Also, aura's are enchantments.
No. It's only a spell while it's on the stack, and counter spells can only counter spells (wut)
