Notes:
Another attempt at a good modern deck

Birdbrain

It started out as an attempt to make {tarland, sky summoner} modern competitive. That project got derailed as it didn't fit in the deck that was forming around it. So I ended up with this instead

Thetrufflehunter

{cursecatcher} over shorethief. Maybe {kira, great glass spinner} and {aether vial}?

Birdbrain

Maybe. Although I already have one creature not classified as a merfolk in a merfolk deck. How would I fit Kira in?

Thetrufflehunter

Sideboard vs control?

Lyriczulu

Maybe add {Mutavault} for more creatures and {Spreading Seas} instead of {Levitation}.

the only problem I have with {spreading seas} is, only one card gives the merfolk island walk. 1/15 chance of draw, and removal will take care of that, so I'd rather go the slower route with evasion and use it to finish off my opponent, or catch up on damage rather than a first wave assault

Well, it also messes with their mana base don't forget.
true...I'll put the card and {lord of atlantis} in the sideboard

I think it's mainboardable tbh

Birdbrain

Edited. How's it look?

Joshnoodles

I would take out voyages end for  {Coralhelm Commander} thassa does all the scrying you need and bounce effect are pretty weak in modern unless it's  {Vapor Snag}.

Birdbrain

Bounce can be good. If you bounce something then play a card you will have gained some tempo.

Joshnoodles

I still think you need  {Coralhelm Commander} and {Merrow Reejerey} is really good

{lullmage mentor}. If all else fails, you can just sit there and counter.
If you have seven Merfolk and are using then to counter, you're doing it wrong 😉

Clearly you never played EDH with Merfolk.
