If you equip {Melek, Izzet Paragon} with {Illusionist's Bracers} is the spell copied four times, or is one spell cast by Melek and copied, then the next spell, if one comes up, cast by the Bracers and copied?

Actually, you can't copy Melek's ability with the bracers- Melek's ability is triggered, and the Bracers only copy activated abilities.

{Melek Izzet Paragon}, and I think the thirnd ability is triggered.

I believe {Illusionist Bracers} copies triggered abilities. It says "not a mana ability". To my knowledge, it reads

"Whenever an ability is activated".

Not: "copy target ACTIVATED ability"

I may be wrong though, but there may be a difference. I would call your LGS and double check :p

602.1c: An activated ability is the only kind of ability that can be activated. If an object or rule refers to activating an ability without specifying what kind, it must be referring to an activated ability.

Deathstorm

It says right in the card whenever an ability is activated not triggered there is a difference activated implies some sort of cost associated with it I.e tapping or paying mana

Thanks! Glad I learned :) +1!

Thank you all for the replies, and the clarifications.

Giggle the Draco Genius

An activated ability is always written out as [cost]:[effect] and the cost can be anything such as tapping the permanent, mana, life, or manipulating loyalty counters. While a triggered ability will have the words "when" or "whenever"

You can you {strionic resonator}.

Yup, you can do this! And if you do, you get this:

Original spell
+Melek Copy
+Strionic Copy of Melek's ability that results in a 2nd Melek Copy

Total of 3 of that spell.
