Buy a booster box and practice with your group. Make sure you keep your cards though!
The big thing is to know what's out there. Know the set lists. Knowledge of the cards is where it's at.

Bombs- if you get them on the field you probably win.

Evasion- Hard to block.

We usually take a look at the set online (if its new) to become aqauinted with the cards. You can watch some videos of drafts on channel fireball and learn some things that way. But I've found that experience is the best teaching tool when it comes to drafting. BREAD is a great tip that I wish I'd known about when I started drafting.

Unless you're really confident in your ability to win, grab the money cards. :P

He did say he wants to get better... That really isn't helpful...

Listen to the Limited Resources podcast, they give some realllly good insight what's good to draft in the sets. Of course it does all depend on what you pull and what's being passed to you though. If you start in one color, don't think that you are confined to that color. If you see a ton of black cards being passed, it might be a good idea to jump into that color and cut off the next person from thinking the same thing! Of course it gets hard sometimes if u open a bomb but then get passed a bunch of CRAPola in that color, also a good sign to jump ship from that color even if u really don't want to. Just keep your options open until you see what good cards are being passed.

But seriously, that podcast is good!

i think the above advice is good. while opening bombs is important, i think its much more important to understand whats happening at the table by what cards aren't being picked. trying to force a deck based on a good pick one is usually pretty bad. much better to just understand that those three {vaporkin} that tabled are a big signal.

Might ask gorzo to sticky his write up for draft in that section. It was a pretty good description.

I'm a little worn out on drafting Theros, but I usually try to grab flying creatures and the ordeals if I can.

If I had any idea where it was or remembered what I said wording-wise enough to search for it, I could do that :P

Me and my friend recently made repacks of anything you wanted to (we ended up with cards from Alara to Kamigawa to Theros to RTR....) and we drafted. I thought it was really good for draft experience because it isn't an environment built for limited so you have to think a lot more and you can't just pull cards with synergy (like in RTR you could just pull a lot of tokens and in Theros you could just pull a lot of heroics and heroic triggers).

Just read all your posts. You don't have many.

The only thing I've really noticed with drafting (so far) is go for small costs. The games don't seem to last long enough for the big guys to come out (except for my last draft I went to) I had a dimir control deck that did pretty decent :D

There were some cards I don't like like {returned phalanx} but I figured I'm running black/blue so I can make him attack if nothing else and he's cheap (I managed to get 3 of him and {shipwreck singer}s because nobody was pulling them O.o so I got a pretty nice selection of crap that I managed to make work lol. I managed to have some counter and removal/life gain to keep them nice and small while I wittled them down with weak flying and unblockable guys.

But ya my deck slowed the games enough for my big hexproof blue giant :P

Also {Akroan horse} saved me a few times too. Pulled one but he showed up a bit. so little 1/1 blockers and he couldn't kill his (my) horse cuz I was unblockable or flying
