So I just registered for this, and I don't know how everything really works, like what all the category's are, so I'm not really sure where I should actually be posting this.

Ok, the help section pretty much explains everything you need to know, or at least most of it. If you just browse through the sections you should get a good idea of what everything is. This also would have been better to post in the help section.

Well General Discussions is a wide broad so asking is quite fine. Btw Welcome to iMtG forums!! GD is just about everything. Rules are for rules. Combos-combos. Games are little games we play on the forums or about games we play. Below that are the people Decks. Amazing decks sepreratrd by format and the awesome BlackJester has listed what the formats are more info on the format at the top of each one
