Phalanx leader counters

I'm pretty sure it would work but just to be sure.  If I were to have...say {celestial archon} bestowed upon {phalanx leader}, if I were to bestow {Observant Alseid} onto my leader as well.  Would the archon get a +1/+1 counter because it is still a creature, and such keep said counter should the leader get destroyed?

I read the explanation for bestow from wotc mtg site, and it says that if you pay bestow cost it is instead an aura spell with enchant creature.

So I would not think it works.

When bestowed onto a creature the bestow card is not a creature.

Upside your bestow aura does not die to {supreme verdict}

Downside your bestow aura can not recieve creature boosts like {phalanx leader}, {master biomancer}, or {mikaes the unhallowed}.
