...As magic goes on, creatures get better and spells get worse. My idea of balance is winning with decent creatures by backing them up with decent spells. Not winning with broken creatures because wizards printed 10 broken creatures that you can put in your deck.

I've heard this is true of Theros pre-release. It was absolutely nothing but creatures turned sideways and drafting bombs.
Pretty much. I went UW and split with another UW player. Both of us just had bombs and bestow creatures. A few situational/poor counterspells and bounce spells but mostly bombs.

That being said, I think theros is taking a step in the right direction in terms of slowing down standard. Rav was such a pain to play in, honestly. Sure they are printing above-chrve creatures still, but thundermaw is now stormbreath. Thragtusk is nowhere to be found. Not a huge improvement in the creature department (fleecemane and mistcutter WTF), but I think standard went from "bad" to "bad but fixable".

Sounds logical. Wizards is always working 2 years in advanced. The emphasis on creature combat is something new that they're leaning toward. Growing pains essentially. They've gotta take risks with creatures like {Thragtusk}.

I just hate standard money sink. Playset of {Huntmaster of the Fells} was almost $100, now it's worth $30. And the move toward printing staples at Mythic is hard to not be angry about.

We do know that Wizards has nailed the degenerate combo spells. It's focus is on creatures. We also know that counter spells butt hurt tons of players, always have. What I don't get is players who are fine with you playing a creature - then having it be destroyed immediately - but hate having the spell not resolve. It's twisted logic on the part of magic players.

Rotation is never fun, definitely try and piece together a modern deck (fishies are great because you don't need fetches). I've had to make very minor updates to my decks over their lifetimes. The sideboards change more than the main deck :P

I'll still buy new stuff (after all, I do have one card from every product released), but as for competitive standard, no. My LGS does modern 3rd or 4th Friday every month, which I think will be fun

Only one small input there is one coompetitive archetype in standard that is able to survive rotations with small maintanance expanses...;) RDW... You can keep it really competitive with really low cost...;)

Legacy is all Stoneblade at this point, very high cost.

I don't know about your local meta, but that definitely isn't the case around me or in recent SCG opens.

I still have my playsets of volcanic islands, underground sea, taigas and plateaus in storage back home... Next time I'm in Illinois I should go pick them up...
...and then ship them to Agrus Kos' house
If I get them, I'll let you know. Maybe we can work out a cheap trade or something. After all, I did get them back when they were $10 a piece...

Now that I think about it, my RTR-block deck is RDW splash green for  {Ghor-Clan Rampager} and  {Domri Rade}. Shouldn't be too hard to update with a few Theros cards... Imagine domris fight with Purphorus...

That is pretty much what limited is for every set? Theros is one of the best limit formats I have played and I have been in sense shards of alara, this set alone is amazing has infinite flavor and really neat cards. I agree with everyone that standard is going to bad but it has been for a while now after zendikar the format made a turn for the worse/best, players who are competetive and want to be spell slinging not dude swinging wont like standard which is okay play modern its a super diverse format, standard is absolutely perfect for new players and that is what the format is designed to be for. Nothing is wrong with theros its just as you get better at magic standard isnt what you want to be doing.
