I was a big fan of Season 1 and 2. It seems to have gone down hill fairly substantially since. The Trinity Killer wasn't the worst. The season with Travis "the Doomsday" killer was my breaking point - Dexter escaped the most preposterous situations, it was absolutely the worst season I've ever sat through of anything.

So far season 8 is ok? I don't like any of the scenes without Dexter because he's a compelling character. Everyone else is poorly written or has nothing at stake for me to care about. Dokes vs. Dexter was the best, everything else is derivative of that conflict.

I really just can't wait for it to end already. When a show has no clear "goal" of ending the series it turns out like Dexter. Shows like Breaking Bad, The Wire and others (mostly British shows) that plan to end at a certain point have much tighter archs, it keeps the limited amount of episodes more interesting. There are almost 5 seasons of Dexter that have BARELY anything to do with the final season.

How important is it to remember Jimmy Smits character? How about Lumen Pierce? The other girl that just went to prison?

Doomsday was somehow worse than the Lumen season. For one, they killed my man Mos Def way too early. Two, I felt Travis being crazy was just a cop out. Three, I saw Dexter getting caught from a mile away. I like four the best because A) John Lithgow. And B) Dex did the most soul searching in that season.

Season Eight is worth watching solely for the fact that you've invested nearly a decade into the show. If the first few episodes of this season were the only ones ive seen of the entire show, I wouldn't be compelled to go back and watch the other seven seasons. The whole storyline with Deb (I won't give away much since you haven't seen it) is clunky and it's evident the writers don't (or didnt) know where they want/ed to take her character. At least it isn't apparent right now. They're trying to do too much, and it's basically turned into a soap opera. There's a storyline with Dex and Deb, Dex and another character, Quinn and Deb, Quinn and Batista's sister. There's no clear cut path they're trying to take. I wish they would find one plot point and stick with it.

I have a semi-distaste for the newer seaskn only because I love the show so much. It's the Star Wars complex in another form.

This is what all of my buddies who've been watching it told me. It's the same reason I watched part of season 7 before tapping out half way.

I actually have seen the first 3 episodes of this season (I believe that's all that has aired) and so far I don't care for it anymore. The writing is super lazy, Dexter is rarely at work, the established characters all interacting together is silly nonsense and I don't even know why I care about the Dexter character anymore.

Mikefrompluto

Ah okay. I just misunderstood something and thought you haven't seen any of the new season.

Deb's storyline is the most disappointing. Being in love with Dex was the focal point of last season, and now it doesn't even exist. The acting is some of the best Jennifer Carpenter has done on the show. Too bad it's not believable for that character, even if it is because she shot LaGuerta.

Vogel's storyline is very, very lazily written. Seven years and all of a sudden we find out that Harry wasnt alone in developing the code? Get out of here. I understand the writers didnt have the entirety of the series mapped out from the beginning, but they could've done better than that.

I hope Hannah McKay doesn't come back. His involvement with her is even worse than the Lumen storyline. WHY is he attached to this girl? That didnt explain it all that well, other than she knows who he is.

Thinking in retrospect, compared to post season four, killing off Dokes was the worst decision they made. I hated his character, and now I realize it's because of my deep liking for Dexter. Dokes was trying to get in his way. Now, like you, I don't even care about the character that is Dexter, so if someone stood in his way, I wouldn't care as much as I did then.

The biggest, most lazy and annoying piece of writing is Harrison WHERE IS HE?! He know Deb isn't watching him. Jamie is shacking up with Quinn at night, and Dexter is doing Vogel's bidding in the night hours WHERE IS YOUR KID AT?!

Closest thing to something interesting happened on tonight episode. First semi-compelling thing in 4 years.

Mikefrompluto

Ah we got caught up watching This Is 40 and missed it. I'll have to watch it tomorrow and weigh in.

Mikefrompluto

Just watched it. I agree. It feels like we're finally getting somewhere. I was hoping Dexter wouldve actually drowned and the remainder of the season would've been Deb dealing with it or maybe even pick up where he left off. Inknew that wasnt going to happen, though.

The Pyromancer

I've only seen commercials. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever this show is about.

It peaks at season four, in my opinion. Downhill after that. One is my second favorite. Two and three are okay.

Dexter was a snooze fest again this week. I m emotionally unattached to this show now. At this point, I'm just keeping up with it for the closure of being with it for eight years. I could care less what happens to the characters.

If they do make a second generation Dexter by teaching the code to that little turd, I'll rage quit this series right then and there.

This absolutely, hands down, the worst show on television. The acting, the lack of consequences, things that just don't make sense, and ultimately a horrible ending (I read the spoilers for the last 6 episodes, they've all been spot on)

It is truly the worst show I've ever watched the most episodes of. Season 1 and 2 were impossible to top, and 6 seasons after you wonder why they even tried.

It's gotten pretty bad. Previous seasons were bearable but this one is just awful. The only thing that is possibly worse than Dexter is Walking Dead. Season one was so so good. After that, it sucked. They neutered the Governor, pussyfooted their way around killing Shane for too long, and made Andrea (arguably the second best character in the comics) the worst character in the series.

Breaking Bad, however, is .loving. phenomenal this season. Sons of Anarchy started off strong too.
