I know it happened because the mod messaged me. I had given them three neg karma over 72 hours for a post that in my mind was ridiculous. And they retaliated by giving me the same amount of neg karma because they knew it was me giving them bad karma. If any mod would like to pm me so that I can tell then what it was over please do so. Thank you

And then I get neg karma for having this post, really?? It is an opinion.. Lay off people

Why not make it so people who leave bad karma have to post a reason that the person can see but their name wont be listed, it could even just be a list of pre programmed reasons such as annoying, redundant, bad advice, ext. this can help the person realize why they are getting bad karma so they can change what they are doing yet still hides names so karma wars don't occur.

Are you saying that over the space of three days you went back to the same post and neg'ed it each time, just to express how much you really really did not like it? :-0 That just sounds like vindictiveness. I don't know what the post was, or if you spoke up about it, but to me if you have an issue with someone's post, neg it if you want - once - and come out and say something. Then get over it, move on, and move away... It's the Internetz... Not real life.

"Do not do to others what they would not want to be done to them"

I'd say their course of action was perfectly reasonable. Giving three neg karma is pretty unreasonable, IMO. I wouldn't want that done to me.  In a sense, maybe he did abuse his powers, but it was for a legitimate reason. And seriously, if you've got a problem with someone, use the Trials section!!! It was implemented for a reason.

Maybe we can imply a on/off for your karma. If you don't want to be able to get negative you can have a blank spot where the karma is but you will not be able to distribute karma. And if someone is too annoying put them on trial to be banned if they do not allow karma.

Jus spitballing something.

But then if you give a mod neg karma they can give it right back to the person and do that. I had this happen..
Part of being a mod is having the maturity to handle this information. Retaliating in such a manner is abusing the knowledge given to us mods, and is certainly frowned upon. I keep an eye on the karma log daily (as I'm sure other mods do), and have not seen any abuse*. However, if you think a mod is abusing their knowledge of the karma log, feel free to shoot me a pm about it, and I'll check it out for you.

* Am I being scrutinised the very same way?

Indeed. I treat you (as far as responsibility with your powers) the same as the other mods. I haven't seen you abuse your powers, and if I do I'll be sure to raise a point about it. I'd like to think that anybody on here, mod or otherwise, is comfortable with speaking up if they feel someone is being too abusive.

And try not to let the Karma thing affect you too much, don't take it so personally and/or use it to personally attack others. It's that simple.

At the end of the day, let the respect you gain come from your actual contribution to a mature conversation or good hearted yarn, not a number below your name.

I haven't ever used the Don't button and you don't have to either. I also haven't really taken notice of my own digits, at the time of writing this I have no idea what I'm rated and I can say I'm having as good a time as I would if I had 1,000,000 karma points.

Maybe its just because I've been on here since WELL before Karma but don't let it rule you peeps, jus' chill. 😁

That said, Spike, here's a +1 for good advice. 😉

People worry about it too much. This can lead to people not actually expressing their opinion. And that's how circlejerks start. I hate circlejerks.
