{Grave Betrayal} does this work on commanders

Arzair

Well... Yes, but it would require you to chose to have your commander, after it is dead to go to the graveyard, instead of the command zone, which would mean that unless your running some sort of recursion (and the fact that your obviously running black, it is safe to say you might be) you will be unable to replay him from the command zone, because he will be in your graveyard.

Overall I think that this should only be done if you can replay your commander immediately ( via some sort of graveyard shenanagins) or you have more to gain in the overall strategy (big picture) by not being able to replay your commander (with tax)

Hope this helps answer your question and stir some of my thought processing for the morning ;)

no i ment more for the combo i use with grave pact and grave betrayal to steal creatures but it doesnt say tht the creature dies i gain control of it at the end of the next end step so would the opponent get to choose to put it in the command zone and if they do would i still get to take control of it

The wording can be kinda confusing but basically a creature only 'dies' when it is put into the graveyard. In EDH if your commander would be placed in the graveyard or exiled you may put it in your command zone instead so it never really dies unless you choose to allow it to go to graveyard.

The same reason {child of alara} won't trigger unless you choose to let it go the graveyard.
