this thread may be moved if necessary.

i was sending off some trades today and the postal worker suggested i get a tracking number, i've know about them for some time, but never really taken an interest in it until he mentioned it was only about 90 cents per shipment.

now i know some people may think that it can add up, but i was wondering if it would make things a lot less sketchy about theft and stolen goods if we required new and first time traders to get tracking numbers and send first.

maybe someone can spin my idea somewhere and maybe it's completely unreasonable... and what's to say they just send something to just have sent something..

however the time and lies would be cut to a minim because when the supposed package arrived you would know in "" an amount of time that you were scammed, and wouldnt have to be run around with, "I already sent"  and "it's on it's way" for months?

just an idea

I for one would be willing to test new traders myself if they offered tracking  numbers, it would be really nice if the postal service offered like a contents check.. but that would probably be personally infringing somehow... even though i don't know since it would be voluntary?

any thoughts?

We can't REQUIRE it for anyone as that would be against iMtG law, but if people personally want to use tracking numbers, there's nothing wrong with it as long as both parties know that that is the preferred method before any trades are finalized. It would also be in good tact to offer to add tracking to your package as well if you're going to ask someone else to do it, even if you are a trusted trader.

I'm fine when people send first w/out tracking since stamps alone are cheap... But I haven't encountered that scenario of " I sent it, it's on it's way, it should have been there by now, etc"

A lot of times I will pay for shipping through PayPal. You can ship a padded mailer with tracking for $1.69. I like it because I've shipped stuff standard .46 cent shipping and have it take 2 weeks to arrive. Tracked has never taken more then 4 days across country, plus I feel the cards are safer in a padded mailer.

this is me, i do padded mailers every time, at least since i've become more a veteran trader, and i plan to start offering the tracking on my end every time now.

If you're going that far you might as well just sell your card ala eBay to someone

PS

Don't let people upsell you at stores. Use the USPS app for proper postage info.

You can buy online and also save more

If you are sending $25+ worth of cards. Then yeah get tracking/insurance.

Melek the fire

This is what mtg salvation does for its trades and it works well. But they have a whole rule set for trading so both parties are informed what should be done. And there trials section works out many of the kinks and bans the idiots ripping people off really fast. IMO best site to trade off of.

After seeing how quick your cards got to me, I may start doing this for high value trades :P

I think it would be a great requirement for first time trades:)

Against iMtG law. We can't require people to do anything they don't want to do unless it's for punishment.
