So I have a  {Thalia, Guardian of Thraben}, a  {Silverblade Paladin} soulbound to a  {Burning-Tree Emissary}. Thalia and the emissary are attacking. Thalia gets blocked by a {Fiend Hunter} and the emissary gets blocked by a 1/1 token. Can I flash in a  {Restoration Angel} after first strike damage to bounce my silver made paladin and soulbond it to Thalia so she can kill the fiend hunter? I don't think the emissary would attack during the normal combat step since it already dealt damage during the first strike combat step.

If so, the result of this would be everything dies except the emissary. Correct?

702.4d: Giving double strike to a creature with first strike after it has already dealt combat damage in the first combat damage step will allow the creature to assign combat damage in the second combat damage step.

Looks like it, yes.

Giving Thalia double strike at that point wouldn't do anything for you, I'm afraid. When creatures have double strike (or first strike), there's a combat phase where only those creatures attack, and once that step is over, giving something double strike won't do anything. Also, removing the double strike from the Emissary would mean it doesn't get to attack in the second (normal) combat phase. It would be better off keeping things as they were.

Edit: Listen to Gorzo. He reads cards better than I do!

I know removing doubling strike after first strike won't allow the emissary to attack in the normal damage phase, but where's the ruling that this wont work for Thalia? 702.4d says it should work, no?

Ohhh, I didn't notice she had first strike! Then yes, that works fine for Thalia.

Silly ol' crazy double-strike wonkiness :P
