Went to a Modern Masters draft...pulled a {Sword of Fire and Ice}, but nothig else worth money. Made a green-black beatdown deck. It was very fun for me because outside of cube and a proxied EDH deck, I don't play any other formats than standard. It was neat using cards with different abilities than the usual I deal with. I went 3-1, one of my wins being a bye (I hate byes...I came here to play magic! Lol). I got 4th which got me 2 packs. One had a {Cryptic Command}, which I was happy about. My worst moment? Losing because I didn't pay for {Slaughter Pact}. My opponent was like "are you really drawing?" I was like "yeah..." The he repeated "really? You sure?" I said "yeah..." Then he was like "you lose." Hahaha then it made sense when I remembered my pact. That's what happens when I main-phase pacts...

What did you guys build if you went to a MM tourney?

Good points. the tourney/fnm issue was solved when my local game stre cancelled their venue status. And modern HAS hurt my pocket book but after 2 years of it I finally feel like I have a lot of what I need to play.

And I agree about commander. The more I play the more I feel like EDH might be where it's at.

EDH was my saving grave for a while. Magic has always been a casual game for me; I've never played competitively. It's just too much of a money dump for my liking. I just feel bored with the game recently. It seems like nothing new has been happening, and the colors are slowly losing their identity. It seems like every color can do everything now, which seems wrong to me.

EDH is still fun to me, but like I said, I get most of my enjoyment from helping people on here. I think I just got burned out. Maybe I just need a little break from playing, or something new to freshen the game up for me.

Magic is a lot like any other table game. You can play it obsessively and still want more but at some point you've got the strategy and flavor figured out and the game loses its freshness. The same thing happened to me with Dominion. The expansions were ikay but ultimately changed too much of what was great about the game to the point where I was ready for something new.

Enter Mtg.

In a year or two I'll probably move on to something different but I'll always come back to these games I've loved. Give yourself permission to toss those cards in a closet and try something else for a while. Basically what Coffee said more concisely 😉.

This reminds me of a friend of mine (well not really friend anymore), we started to play casually, i got kinda serious and he followed me, and overtook me, hes to the point where he literally has a breakdown if he loses a match or even doesnt get something good from a booster, its ridiculous. He lost his girlfriend, and is failing every class because of mtg, he has no longer any friends and absolutely no life. It kinda sucks but hey, some get a bit too into the game i guess....

So I drafted a {Mutavault} tonight. I was excited until I realized that the rest if my pool was pretty atrocious. I still pulled a {Mutavault} and a {Darksteel Forge}, so whatever   Oh, and a new {Nightmare}!  Even though it isn't worth anything, I love the new art.

Yeah I had a mutavault in my sealed tonight too. Such a solid 1st play. Drop land turn 2 and swing. If they have nothing for turn 3, do it again.

I want Grandeur to be a thing in Theros, so they can print {Korlash, Heir to Blackblade} in it, and standard can have those two with {Liliana of the Dark Realms} all in together. I would build that deck so fast...
