How should I...

I separate by colors (each is sorted by creatures, instants, sorceries, then enchantments and each of those sections are alphabetized) a sheet or two for each mixed color (or 4 for {U}{G}), a section for artifacts, a section for tokens, a section for lands, and a section for planeswalkers. I try to keep my collection down to 4 cards each of just the essentials.

3 binders house my entire collection.

I follow the same procedure for organization that my LGS does. I have a big 4 row box. In each row, I have a set. So, right now one of my boxes has (in order): Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored, M13. What do all of these sets have in common? They rotate out at the same time.

Now, for organizing each set, I follow WoTC's number system, and I put like cards together in penny sleeves (clear sleeves that generally cost $1 per 100). This way, they are organized by color, and then alphabetically. This makes searching for cards much faster, at least for me.

Now, the order that WoTC does things is Colorless/White/Blue/Black/Red/Green/Gold/Hybrid/Artifact/Lands. Also, if you look at the bottom of each card, there is a number associated with it. For instance, the One Thousand Lashes you linked, is card number 183. So, it would go 183rd in my box.

I hope that this helps.

I wish I had done that when I started :(  I've got two 3 row boxes of cards from the past 3 or 4 years, and they're just organized by color.  It'd take me ages to get them all reorganized :-\

I currently put cards for each set into a binder.. Can usually fit 2 sets per binder.  Max is a play set of each card in number order. I even leave spaces for openings if I don't have a play set just in case I get them.  It's the collector side of me that does this.. The they rest over playset are in tcg boxes by color..  Might change that part up though.

I put all my bad cards that i'll never play with in a shoebox like {tin street market} and stuff like that.
Then in my box i put my commons/uncommons in color organization with standard at front and modern/vintage at back.
In my binder it goes Moneycards, Special lands, Multicolored rares, Red, Black, White, Blue, Green, Artifacts. Its not alphabetical or anything cause I havent been playing too long so i can skim through easily.

Do you get orders pretty regularly ala TCG?

Don't buy on TCG...  Meant cardboard card boxes.
