This is the first week of many that I have not gone to FNM...sometimes I wake up and honestly the last thing I want to do is play Magic. Anyone else find themselves "magicked out" sometimes?
At this point, I'm sad to say I'm completely magicked out. I just don't get any enjoyment from playing anymore. I haven't even built the last few decks I've come up with, because I know I won't even want to play them. The only enjoyment I get from the game nowadays is helping people out on here.

Theros seems really cool though. I'm hoping it will do something to pull me back into the game.

I've been to one tournament and that was enough for me. It wasn't as intimate as a few friends playing a game with a table and some junk food. I love the game because it's a thing 2 or 3 of my buddies like to do with me. Are you tired of competitive standard or are you guys playing other formats too?

Coffee Vampire

I just play standard. My best friend also does, and we go to FNM every week. However we are trying to build both commander and modern decks on the side. Commander is fun as hell, but I don't like modern enough to put money into it...seems like just an expensive standard to me. Commander however seems like a whole new and exciting thing to get into.
On another note, I think that the biggest reason I go to FNM is to be with my friends, or just one friend. If nobody I knew attended FNM on a regular basis I, I know that I would be magicked out a whole lot more often, and wouldn't see the need to come back every week.

Edit: oh and yes tournies can be somewhat a bore, and not intimate or fun. Even FNM! But if you get to know a small group of people at FNM then it soon becomes somewhat of a kitchen table! You can still eat junk food in between rounds ;)

Good points. :) the tourney/fnm issue was solved when my local game stre cancelled their venue status. And modern HAS hurt my pocket book but after 2 years of it I finally feel like I have a lot of what I need to play.

And I agree about commander. The more I play the more I feel like EDH might be where it's at.

EDH was my saving grave for a while. Magic has always been a casual game for me; I've never played competitively. It's just too much of a money dump for my liking. I just feel bored with the game recently. It seems like nothing new has been happening, and the colors are slowly losing their identity. It seems like every color can do everything now, which seems wrong to me.

EDH is still fun to me, but like I said, I get most of my enjoyment from helping people on here. I think I just got burned out. Maybe I just need a little break from playing, or something new to freshen the game up for me.

Too much of anything can be bad. Maybe you just need to set it aside for a bit and focus on like...video games or cooking or playing an instrument. I don't know, whatever you do when you want to feel chill, but still in control of your life...if that makes any sense. But don't go cold turky. If you do that you will just think about Magic even more. Maybe play a few games every few days with a buddy or something. Ok it feels like I am talking about drinking and not Magic now so I'll stop rambling...

Edit: also yeah I do agree that colors are losing what makes each special.

I play standard and modern with my friends, have yet to enter a tourney, but I will one day, for now I'm just into making decks and beating my friends.

How do I insert a pic from my phone?

See, I started only doing the kitchen table thing and my friends were playing casual builds, didnt really start at a format and after I started aging more I became bored with the kitchen table.

I found out about standard format and started building competitive decks and now I play standard twice a week.  The kitchen table got boring because my deck was outpacing my friends and after a while I got a few into the tournament scene.

But you are right, I've made more friends at fnm and local standard tournaments than I have in years.  Not best friends mind you, but guys and gals it's good to see every week and bs with while playing cards

You'll have to host your pic on the web using an img hosting site like imgur

The you can use [img forum tags to link it in the forum.

I might have made a bestie or two over kitchen table games :)

I've met some cool folks thru my lgs and magic, mainly the guys who run it.

Last night at a MM draft I witnessed a few agitated people calling for "JUDGE!", followed by quotes like "YOu can't do that! I knew you had that card!"

It was really funny as I was a bit red. I almost wanted to record it.

I've found some competitive folks are kind of cold towards new people. Or dismissive would be a better word. Then they get sweaty and frustrated that you win. ☺

I'm focusing on making a cube and my EDH decks. For standard I've got two decks I constructed from cards I have, but I like the idea of having a set to play with a large group. Then I can just sell off everything else quick

I like kitchen table because it is so informal (duh!)

I just like seeing my friend pass me his deck to cut, and I just shake my head and set my deck down :P  I've done it too though...  You get too used to competitive/semi-competitive and it's fun to stop and play for kicks and giggles.

Magic is a lot like any other table game. You can play it obsessively and still want more but at some point you've got the strategy and flavor figured out and the game loses its freshness. The same thing happened to me with Dominion. The expansions were ikay but ultimately changed too much of what was great about the game to the point where I was ready for something new.

Enter Mtg.

In a year or two I'll probably move on to something different but I'll always come back to these games I've loved. Give yourself permission to toss those cards in a closet and try something else for a while. Basically what Coffee said more concisely 😉.
