So, a few minutes ago, I was at a coffee shop when a couple of guys and a girl sat at a table near me and started opening boosters. I resisted a strong urge to walk over and start talking to them about MtG.

Would it have been weird for me to start talking to random guys if i know they play too?  How would you react if someone started talking to you about MtG?

MacUser001

I would walk up without hesitation. Someone opening Magic cards in a coffee shop? Awesome. One of them a girl? Awesome. But some people are just more outgoing than others.

How good looking was the girl? :D

Karrthus

On one hand I would say it would be weird; but on the other don't people hoard people they don't even know to watch boosters be opened at magic shops world wide. Lmao

BlackJester

The girl was average, and may or may not have been in on the Magic stuff  I don't know.

I would have waited for an oppotune moment to chime in and probably even offered a quick game (I go everywhere with a deck, on the off chance. At the moment Im carrying around Kemba's Last Stand you'll find in Standard Deck lists 😏) but then again, everyone's ya mate in Australia! Lol

BlackJester

Wow!!  You always have a deck with you?  I'm very impressed!  That's dedication to the game.

Mentonin

I take mine everywhere too(except somewhere ill get wet or somewhere i cant carry it on), but dont really find people to play. Sometimes players, but not with their decks

MacUser001

I like that idea. I might at least always keep one in my car.

Queezle

I dont carry a deck but i carry some cards to trade

Talking to strangers can be fun :) here I am right!?! Talking to strangers!?! I'm a girl, I carry a deck on me, but I am new to this and it's an intro pack lol :)

BlackJester

Well Dawn, like they, you can't spell forest ranger without stranger. Okay maybe they don't say that. But they should!

Anywho welcome to the weird, wild world of magic. As a female player you are definately a rare occurance, but from what I've seen, more and more girls are deciding to see what all the fun is about. :)

I think it all depends in the individual =) Some may have thought it was weird, but some may have welcomed it gladly! It may seem harsh, but I put not trying on the same level as losing. You never know what might happen =) I also always have a couple decks in my car just incase!

Spikepit

Having a deck on you definitely helps pass the time! I was on a 2hr train trip between cities and would have gone crazy if not for notice a dude shuffling across from me. I instantly ripped out my deck (I think it was a Dimir Control), said nothing, wiggled my deck box and the noise gain his attention  at which point he motioned the seat across from him in the stall.
We realized to introduce ourselves 2 games/1hr later! 😝
